The Healing Balm Foundation launched an adult education program in 2024 at Siakazembwe Primary School, following community sensitization meetings. The initiative, which aims to improve adult literacy and equip participants with practical life skills, received strong support from both the Headmistress and the Senior Headman.Currently, the program has enrolled 32 adult learners from the . While women were the first to join in large numbers, more men are now beginning to show interest. Classes are held three times a week: Mondays focus on reading and writing, Thursdays on life skills such as gardening and basket-making, and Fridays on basic mathematics and other practical lessons. This flexible schedule allows learners to balance their education with family responsibilities.Progress has been remarkable, Initially, other learners could not write their names — now they can. Adults are learning practical English phrases which are commonly used daily and express themselves more clearly.One inspiring example is Josephine Chilombwa, a 66-year-old learner, who shared how the program has boosted her confidence and enabled her to communicate in basic English.The adult education program is clearly transforming lives by building confidence, improving family incomes, and encouraging lifelong learning. The Senior Headman praised the initiative and appealed for continued support from the Healing Balm Foundation.The Healing Balm Foundation’s adult education program is making a meaningful impact in Siakazembwe. By helping adults learn to read, write, count, and earn a living, it is creating a stronger, more informed, and a more empowered communities.
