The Healing Balm Foundation Activity
At Musokotwani Primary School, we didn’t just speak about values we demonstrated them. The Healing Balm Foundation led a powerful, hands on session that challenged pupils to think deeply about transparency, accountability, and integrity.
Our goal was clear: to raise a generation that does what is right even when no one is watching.,
To bring the lesson to life, we carried out a simple yet powerful demonstration:
We placed sweets in an empty classroom and sent pupils in one by one, asking each to take only one sweet. Sadly, only 3 pupils followed the instruction. The rest found nothing left the sweets were gone. This sparked deep discussions on what it means to be honest even when no one is watching.
We encouraged the pupils to practice integrity not just at school, but also at home. Whether someone is watching or not, doing the right thing always matters.
As part of our support, we also distributed reading books to the pupils to encourage a culture of learning, personal responsibility, and growth. We emphasized that they should be accountable not just for themselves, but also look out for their friends lifting each other up in both academics and character.
We also set up a small open tuck shop experiment which will have no shop keeper . Pupils are trusted to walk in, select what they want , and leave the correct amount of money. It is a practical lesson to test their honesty and accountability in real life situations. This activity gives both us and the learners a powerful insight into character and trust.
Our colleague from the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) also delivered an important session on drug awareness and prevention, urging the young learners to protect their future by making wise choices today.
It was a day of learning, inspiration, and hope. The values of accountability, transparency, and self-discipline have been planted and we believe these young minds are ready to grow into responsible citizens
This program was made possible through the generous support of GIZ,German International Cooperation and co-funding by the European Union in Zambia under the Enabling Access to Justice, Civil Society Participation, and Transparency Program.
