SIHUMBWA COMMUNITY ENGAGES WITH WOMEN

On March 11th 2025, we had a powerful meeting with community women in Musokotwane Chiefdom, Kazungula District, at Sihumbwa School.

The women bravely shared their concerns and challenges, including:

1. Fear of contributing and making decisions due to uncertainty about acceptance
2. Fear of facing anger or rage from their husbands when participating in community discussions
3. Lack of interest in participating in community activities
4. Fear of sharing information due to husbands’ disapproval.

Women also shared how cultural norms hinder their participation.

1. No support from husbands in community matters.
2. Restrictions on speaking and contributing to community discussions
3. Threats of being taken to the chief for disagreeing with decisions
4. Women have limited roles in the village.

Next steps:

1. Establishing a clinic in the community
2. Improving network and communication infrastructure
3. Developing roads
4. Providing electricity
