NSONGWE COMMUNITY ENGAGES WITH TRADITIONAL WOMEN


On 4th February,2025. The Healing Balm Foundation conducted a meeting with traditional women /Ba Simuse (meaning “owner of the land”), at Mukuni Chiefdom in Nsongwe village. The meeting aimed to foster open discussion, community ownership, and responsibilities.

Key Highlights

  1. Traditional women explained how cultural norms work in their community, emphasizing the importance of traditional practices and customs.
  2. Ba Simuse shared valuable insights on cultural norms, highlighting their significance in community decision-making.
  3. Ba Simuse raised a concerns or the need for women to work together to address community challenges.
  4. Ba Simuse encouraged the formation of a strong women’s group to discuss issues such as early pregnancies, drug abuse among youths, and other community concerns.
  5. Ba Simuse play a vital role in the chiefdom, ensuring that traditional women and headmen are informed and involved in decision-making processes.
  6. Ba Simuse raised concerns about the need for improved clinic and toilet facilities in the community.

Next Steps

  1. Form a strong traditional women’s group in Nsongwe village to address community challenges.
  2. Collaborate with local authorities and stakeholders to improve clinic and toilet facilities in the community.

The activity conducted through the support from the Federal Republic of Germany and co-founded from European Union under the Enabling Access to Justice Civil Society Participation and Transparency Programme.
