Community-Driven Development

On the 6th of February 2025, a Public Hearing was convened in Namatama Ward, Livingstone District, Zambia, through a collaborative effort between the Healing Balm Foundation and Life Begins Foundation. The meeting brought together the Area Councillor, Ward Development Committee, and Community Welfare Assistant Committee to engage with community members and address pressing concerns.

Key Matters Discussed:

  1. Infrastructural Development: Community members expressed concerns regarding the lack of toilets at Ngwenya Clinic and the need to extend the school wall fence to prevent disturbances and ensure a conducive learning environment.
  2. Social Cash Transfer: The community highlighted the plight of two elderly women, aged 105 and 86, living alone without caregivers or husbands, emphasizing the need for targeted support and interventions.
  3. Government Initiatives: With a population exceeding 21,000, community members felt that government initiatives, such as cash-for-work programs, which cater to less than 150 individuals, are insufficient and require scaling up.
  4. Constituency Development Fund: The community expressed a lack of awareness regarding the Constituency Development Fund, hindering their ability to access vital resources and support.

In response to these concerns, the leaders in attendance pledged commitment to addressing the community’s needs with utmost urgency, ensuring the overall development and well-being of Namatama Ward.
