Women & Youth Participation in Governance.

Today at senkobo village of Mukuni chiefdom,we held a community dialogue follow-up on what hinders women and youths from fully participating in governance.

In this follow up,we reviewed the last action plan made by Community with regards to what they would do as youths, women and traditional leaders to ensure community-led Development and accountability is upheld.

Various focus discussion groups were made as they discussed on what they did on the agreed action plan, what they did not do and why, then the way forward.

Some of the actions agreed upon last time was the formation of youth clubs. This was because at that time, youths had nothing to do but engage themselves in unwanted behaviours and high consumption of alcohol. They have since formed clubs and are busy with development in their areas. They have also formed football teams for both girls and boys to keep them busy whilst they also discuss about how they play vital roles in Governance.

There was also an agreed action for women and mothers to hold dialogue meetings with the boy and girl child in their villages on causes of Gender based violence and how they can deal with it at an early stage.

Our youths bemoaned the absence of elected officials in their area as they do not know them which makes it hard for them to have dialogue with them frequently.

Thank you Restless Development Zambia for the financial and technical support.
